Stepping inside, you are immediately welcomed into an atmosphere that feels familiar and unpretentious, focusing entirely on the quality of the food being served.
What truly sets Uncle Shug's Bar B Q Place apart in the competitive landscape of Southern cuisine are several key elements that define their enduring appeal and reputation:
The Signature Smoke Profile: The foundation of great barbecue lies in the smoke. Uncle Shug's utilizes specific hardwoods, carefully managed to impart a deep, resonant flavor into the meats without overpowering the natural taste. This nuanced smoking process is a closely guarded secret and the hallmark of their distinct flavor profile, making their offerings instantly recognizable to barbecue aficionados.
Commitment to Traditional Methods: Rejecting shortcuts, the kitchen adheres strictly to classic, low-and-slow cooking methods. This ensures that even the toughest cuts of meat emerge incredibly tender, juicy, and infused with flavor throughout. This dedication to authenticity is palpable in every bite, distinguishing their product from faster, less nuanced competitors.
Hearty, Homestyle Sides: Barbecue is incomplete without its accompaniments, and Uncle Shug's excels here as well. The side dishes are prepared with the same care as the main courses, featuring recipes that evoke the feeling of a family dinner. These sides are crafted to perfectly complement the richness of the smoked meats, offering balance and variety to the plate.

Statesboro one is ten times better.
I bought a lb of brisket and received two hefty pieces of mostly fat (whole chunks of fat apx 2.5 inches cubed) I expect some but this is excessive.
Positive- Their Spicy Vinegar is amazing and service is friendly.

A friend and I have been here several times. Our original plan was to dine-in, but that quickly changed when the dining area felt like a sauna!
When we asked the server about the heat ( yes, we are experiencing unusual heat right now) she explained that they couldn’t lower the thermostat because it would cause the kitchen to cool down too much. SO, I guess they prefer the customers to suffer.
My SUGGESTION to the OWNER is to install a separate air conditioner in the DINING area.
My friend and I decided we would get our meals to go. I had ordered a chopped pork plate and a fried shrimp plate. She ordered a chopped pork plate. We were in that sauna for at least 30 minutes possibly more, waiting for our order. There were no other customers dining inside.
When we got it back to our home, the pork plate was delicious, however, the fried shrimp was tough, and the hush puppies were nearly burned. My potato salad, as my side was very good.
I don’t mean this in a malicious way, but truly the owner needs to see about the air conditioning in that building. And check that the cook knows how to cook shrimp.

Placed an online order said it would be ready at 5:10pm. I get there at time my order should be ready. I walk in and all the employees are sitting at a table in the dining area. They get up when I walk in I see my order ticket hanging still. My food was not even started as the person that cooks just went back to kitchen when I walked in. Then I get the excuse it will be a min waiting in the chicken fingers. I didn't say anything as I knew that was bull crap. As I watch 5 people come in and order and get their food as I'm still sitting there waiting! Mind u I only ordered hamburger fries. Chicken fingers an fries, shrimp and fries. Then after 30 mins it was your shrimp are cooking along with sorry its been busy an they have a lot going on back there. Well didn't look busy to me as I walk in and everyone is sitting down! The fries are hard and cold. Very disappointed.

Really enjoy their food and the service is Friendly. BUT. They don't serve Splenda or Equal so you can enjoy their under tea unless you bring your own Splenda.

I understand that prices go up but does that mean the more you pay the least you get. I purchased a salad, kids Tedder with fries and a side of potato salad $23.00 if you see the amount of everything it wasn’t worth it.
